Homicide by vehicle (alleged)
What happened
On July 1, 2026, Trooper Michael Pahira Jr., a nearly 20-year veteran, was conducting a commercial-vehicle inspection on I-81 when a tractor-trailer driven by Bon veered onto the shoulder, struck Pahira’s patrol vehicle and the truck under inspection, and pinned the trooper. Both trucks caught fire; Pahira died at a hospital.

Haitian national who entered in July 2024 under the CHNV humanitarian parole program; DHS later terminated parole and ordered him to leave, but he remained. Obtained a Massachusetts non-domiciled CDL while work-authorized.
Legal outcome
